Inspiration. Hyperventilation.

Hello, and welcome to the first of many blogs from me. I figured it's about time to get this going for a few reasons... Since I am moving to Nashville at the end of September, I want people to be able to stay up-to-date with my crafts and southern shenanigans.

I have recently come across one of my favorite felt crafters. She's in the UK, and makes wonderful, mostly impractical little things. You can find her blog at http://www.bugsandfishes.blogspot.com/. The past 6 months I have been getting more and more into felted things. I don't have my camera with me, but I will soon be uploading some pictures of some of the hair clips that I've been making. They are for babies and toddler girls, but I wore one the other day to church and got a ton of compliments on it which got me thinking about which types of things I make can be translated into grown-up wear.

It has been 10 days since I got the idea to move to Nashville, and it's so amazing how things can change so soon. Everyone seems to be on board. My dad's concerned...but that's his job. I am excited to spend all my time sewing felt in the yard. I'll be staying with my good friend Colleen Wandel for the first bit of my time there until I can get into my own place. She is going to be my partner in craft crime. She is so wonderful, and is willing to dedicate all her time to the store. Check out her site and etsy store: http://www.sayooh.com/, and http://www.sayooh.etsy.com/. For those of you who aren't clear as to why I'm moving, well I'll tell you. The past few months, I've been developing the idea of opening my own craft boutique. I realized that when you go to get basic craft supplies (felt, embroidery thread, buttons, adhesives), you are restricted to the giant megastores with employees who mainly excel in puffy paint and iron-ons. I want to establish a place dedicated to the modern day crafter. I want to sell supplies as well as handmade things from local sellers. I want to give people a venue to buy, sell, learn and grow their own small business. I want it to be very community-oriented. I plan on having classes and parties and art shows... and a lot of fun. I also just realized that I start most of my sentences with "I".

This past weekend was fun. Friday night we had Les' going away party. Ivy league themed. He is leaving next week for a life in theology at Princeton. I'm really really going to miss him. Although, I realized that once I move, I'll be closer to Les than I will be to everyone in Seattle. Yikes. 2,444 miles. Colleen is going to fly out here and take the drive with me to Nashville. I'm really glad I'm not going to have to do it alone. Anyway, Saturday Rhett turned 25, and we had a party. A really sweaty party. It's been so hot here. People in warmer areas are probably scoffing at me, but it's true! It was really really hot! It was around 90, and no one in Seattle has a/c in their houses. So it was hot. Really really hot. And sweaty. Hot and sweaty. I'll post some pictures. Ugh, I'm irritated that I left my camera at home. In the meantime, enjoy my friend Jessica Valle's flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/jvalle. Her pictures of the Barcelona guys turned out beautifully, I think.

Oh wait, here's some pics from Rhett's birthday:
